American Iconic

By on December 4, 2025

In David Wood’s well known piece “American Gothic”, two stoic figures stand statuesque in front of their home. The figures seem like hard working, solid, midwestern folk. Wood was drawn to the gothic style of the window and the lace curtains inside. He felt the fancy style was out of place in such an area, like the subjects were pretending to be something they weren’t. It got me thinking…we spend our childhoods pretending, playing house, etc. How many of these activities are convincing us that we need to pretend to be something we’re not? How are the aspirations of the “American dream” being fused into us as we play? I used my own toys of the 70’s to communicate these questions in a relevant way.

This piece continues my series of fan-art pairing iconic toys with iconic art.

F*CK

By on November 1, 2025

Dive head-first into a splash of color, a spoonful of nostalgia and a twist of playful reinvention. F*CK re-imagines the classic sea-monster moment of JAWS through Laurel’s signature lens: bold illustration, vivid palette, tongue-in-cheek iconography — this time featuring a tiny Lego-inspired swimmer bringing a whole new layer of whimsy to the scene..

This isn’t just a retro nod to the summer of ‘75. It’s the shark you didn’t know you needed, the toy-box memory you forgot you loved, the image that makes you grin and then pause. With strong lines and graphic pop finishes, “F*CK” captures the energy of the original suspense — but flips the narrative into pure pop-surreal delight, anchored by that brave little block-figure paddling into the spotlight.

Ideal for framing in your art-nest, studio wall, or that spot that needs a jolt of color and character. Whether you’re a cine-fan, a vintage toy lover, or just someone who appreciates art that smiles and then winks, this piece makes a statement.

First Crush

By on December 4, 2025

Aptly titled First Crush, this beloved toy needed his own official fine art portrait. Watching Steve Austin with stars in her eyes and an elevated heartbeat, Laurel’s childhood tale wouldn’t be complete without including her first crush. Rivaled only by Buck Rogers, actor Lee Majors remained at the top of her heart throb list for years.

This piece adds to the series of fan-art imortalizing iconic toys of Gen X-ers.

Playdoh Warhol

By on

Inspired by the 1962 iconic series Campbell’s Soup Cans by Andy Warhol, this combination of a classic toy and iconic art renews the concept of elevating a common commercial object into “high art”. Playdoh was originally a wallpaper cleaner but was reimagined into a toy in 1956. I’ve always loved Playdoh and if you’re anything like me, to see it is to smell it

Warhol’s soup series was an exercise in mechanical reproduction through screenprinting after he found that hand painting each can was too labor intensive…which I concur.

The original of my iteration is meticulously handpainted in oil on canvas. No use of digital or AI resources were used in the making of the original painting.

Screamin Weeble

By on

We’re all familiar with Scream by Edvard Munch and its symbolism of the anxiety of the human condition it portrays. In this rendition the Weeble wishes to be freed from his captive plastic and go forth uncontained. Originally a part of the Weeble Haunted Mansion set, this boy was an easy pairing with the iconic art. Munch first created the painting in 1893 and its mystery and agony live on generation after generation. After all, everyone needs a good scream once in a while.

The Birth of an Icon

By on November 13, 2025

Laurel’s Birth of an Icon reimagines Sandro Botticelli’s legendary Birth of Venus through the playful, nostalgic lens of Pop Art Surrealism. In the original Renaissance masterpiece, Venus emerges from the sea as the ideal beauty of 15th-century Florence — graceful, mythic, and undeniably influential.

In Laurel’s interpretation, this iconic role is stepped into by a modern cultural symbol: a Barbie-inspired figure. Like Venus before her, Barbie has long embodied ideals of feminine beauty — celebrated by some, questioned by others, but undeniably powerful in shaping the cultural imagination. By placing this contemporary figure in the classical pose, Laurel creates a fascinating dialogue between eras: Renaissance idealism meets 20th-century pop culture.

Every detail is painted entirely by hand using Laurel’s signature tiny-brush technique. The delicate petals, sunlit sky, sculpted hair, and pearlescent shell come to life with extraordinary precision. This blend of fine-art craft and playful re-contextualization is the heart of Laurel Grace Studios — sophisticated artistry wrapped in warmth, nostalgia, and a wink of humor.

Birth of an Icon invites viewers to consider beauty, symbolism, and the stories we tell about femininity. It is both homage and commentary, reverence and reinvention — a vibrant connection between two eras of iconic women.
