Description
Inspired by the 1962 iconic series Campbell’s Soup Cans by Andy Warhol, this combination of a classic toy and iconic art renews the concept of elevating a common commercial object into “high art”. Playdoh was originally a wallpaper cleaner but was reimagined into a toy in 1956. I’ve always loved Playdoh and if you’re anything like me, to see it is to smell it!
Warhol’s soup series was an exercise in mechanical reproduction through screenprinting after he found that hand painting each can was too labor intensive…which I concur.
The original of my iteration is meticulously handpainted in oil on canvas. No use of digital or AI resources were used in the making of the original painting.
This piece adds to my series of fan-art pairing iconic toys with iconic imagery.
